Stockton Ends Regular Season with Split

Game 1 / Game 2

Glenside, PA – Stockton University (21-18-1) finished the regular season by splitting a non-conference doubleheader at Arcadia (25-11). The Ospreys won the opener 4-0 but were edged 3-2 in eight innings in the nightcap. Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong/Hopatcong) pitched 10.2 innings without allowing an earned run in the twinbill.

Bibeault tossed her second shutout of the season in the first game, scattering six hits, striking out two and walking just one. Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover/Hanover Park) went 2-4 with a double and two RBI while Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury/Roxbury) was 2-4 with a run and an RBI.

Stockton got off to a fast start with two runs in the first inning. Carli Shaw (Bordentown/Bordentown) led off the game with a single and scored on an RBI single by Arentowicz two batters later. Cosenzo followed with a double that scored Arentowicz with the second run.

The Ospreys got some insurance with two runs on four hits in the top of the seventh. Maggie Klatt (Middletown/Mater Dei) led off with a pinch-hit single. After a sacrifice and flyout, Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) delivered a two-out RBI single. Arentowicz kept the inning going with a single and Cosenzo next hit an RBI single to bring home the last run of the 4-0 triumph.

Massa went 2-4 with a triple while Ashley Lobell (Cedar Knolls/Whippany Park) doubled and scored in the second game. Arcadia took the early lead with a run in the first inning but Stockton tied it 1-1 in the fourth. Lobell doubled and later scored while Daniela Marinaro (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) reached on a fielder's choice.

The 1-1 deadlock remained through the seventh frame and the game went to extra innings. Danielle Lugo (Vineland/Vineland) led off with a single. With Lugo at third two batters later, Morgan DiVello (Atco/Hammonton) dropped a squeeze bunt that scored Lugo with the go-ahead run.

Arcadia overtook the Ospreys with two runs on one hit, two walks and an error in the bottom of the eighth. With runners at second and third, a single to centerfield was misplayed for an error that allowed the tying and winning runs to score unearned as the Knights edged Stockton 3-2 for the doubleheader split.

Starter Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) went the first four innings, scattering seven hits and yielding one run. Bibeault came out of the bullpen and tossed three scoreless frames before the Knights prevailed with two unearned runs off her.

With the regular season complete, Stockton is on to the NJAC tournament. The fifth-seeded Ospreys will open at No. 2 seed William Paterson on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
