Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (25-20-1) advanced to the double-elimination portion of the ECAC Tournament with a 6-1 victory over College of New Rochelle (16-11) in the first round. The No. 2 seed Ospreys will continue in the ECAC tourney, which is being hosted by top-seed Arcadia this weekend.

Nine Stockton players registered hits in the game, led by Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury/Roxbury) and Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) with two apiece. Massa also contributed an RBI while Arentowicz scored a run.

Stockton opened the scoring with one tally in the second inning. Morgan DiVello (Atco/Hammonton) knocked an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error. DiVello moved to third on a groundout and then scored on an infield single by Chelsea Thomas (Barrington/Haddon Hts.).

The Ospreys plated three more runs in the third frame. Carli Shaw (Bordentown/Bordentown) singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a squeeze bunt by Massa. Arentowicz and Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover/Hanover Park) followed with singles and both later scored on a two-run single by Ashley Lobell (Cedar Knolls/Whippany Park) to extend the lead to 4-0.

Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) led off the fourth inning with a single and stole second. After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt, Schieda scored on an RBI groundout by Shaw for a 5-0 advantage.

In the fifth stanza, pinch hitters Jessica McDonaugh (Brick/Brick Twp.) and Allyson Kuhn (Leesburg, VA/Tuscarora) each stroked singles. McDonaugh eventually scored Stockton's sixth and final run on an error by New Rochelle.

The Blue Angels broke up the shutout in the top of the sixth as Victoria Holmes rapped an RBI single that scored Samantha Gutierrez. Neither team posted any runs in its final offensive turn and the final result was a 6-1 victory over the Ospreys.

Stockton starter Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) earned her 12th win of the season with four scoreless innings of work. Torp allowed just one hit and struck out four. Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong/Hopatcong) tossed the final three frames, giving up one run on two hits with one strikeout. Bibeault received defensive help from Lobell with a couple of outstanding stops in the seventh inning.
