Galloway, NY – Stockton University (4-2) scored twice in the last 13 minutes to snap a 1-1 tie and defeat Eastern University (1-5) 3-1 on a very hot and humid afternoon.
Jacquie Fenton (Ocean City/Ocean City) scored her first two goals of the season and fellow senior
Rebecca Bausher (New Egypt/New Egypt) potted her first career goal as the Ospreys won their third straight game.
The match was scoreless for the first 25 minutes before Fenton corralled a loose ball and fired it home to give the Ospreys a 1-0 edge. Just over six minutes later, Maya Wales knotted the contest for Eastern and the score stayed at 1-1 well into the second half.
Eastern applied offensive pressure throughout the first 20 minutes of the second stanza, outshooting Stockton 9-2 and earning eight penalty corners. The Ospreys survived a couple of scares as two shots by the Eagles hit the left post.
Stockton produced a penalty corner with a little over 13 minutes to play and cashed in for the go-ahead goal. A shot by Fenton was stopped by Eastern goalie Nicole Berger, but Fenton got to her own rebound and potted it to put the Ospreys on top 2-1.
Stockton had the deeper of the two benches and head coach
Sarah Elleman rotated her players liberally down the stretch to beat the heat. The Ospreys later capitalized on another penalty corner to score an insurance goal.
The corner insert went to
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown), who fed the ball left to Bausher. The senior then shoveled the ball into the short side for her first goal in her 28th career game played to seal the Ospreys' third straight win, 3-1.
Stockton goalkeeper
Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) improved to 3-0 on the season with five saves as her squad was outshot 14-10. Berger finished with three saves for Eastern.
Stockton will conclude a three-game homestand on Monday night when the Ospreys host Alvernia at 7 pm.
