Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (6-0-1, 1-0 NJAC) won their NJAC opener with a tight 1-0 victory over Kean University (2-2-1, 0-1 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon.
TomTom Johnson (Trenton/Trenton Catholic) scored his first goal in a Stockton uniform for the game-winning tally. The Ospreys are unbeaten in seven straight games, their longest streak to open a season since 2000.
Â
The contest was scoreless until the 30th minute in the first half.
Eucario Solano (Galloway/Absegami) served a corner kick to the front of the Cougars net. Johnson skied for the ball and headed in his first marker to give Stockton a 1-0 lead. The Ospreys held a 6-3 advantage on shots for the first stanza.
Â
Johnson's tally would turn out to be the game-winner as both teams tightened up on defense. Stockton had two good opportunities for an insurance goal but
James Kayal (Mahwah/Mahwah) headed an attempt high in the 65th minute and
Zach Burns (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) had a shot turned away in the 82nd minute. The game ended with Stockton prevailing 1-0.
Â
Goalkeeper
Kellen Groover (Florence/Life Center Academy) posted his fourth shutout of the season, making two saves in the contest. Bryce Horn made four saves in the net for Kean.
Â
Stockton will take to the road for their next match on Wednesday, when they will travel to Bethlehem, PA to face Moravian in a non-conference match. Game time is set for 7 pm.
