Cortland, NY – Stockton University (1-1) opened the season at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic with a split of two matches on day one. The Ospreys came back from two sets down to beat Fredonia 3-2 (17-25, 18-25, 25-21, 29-27, 15-9) before dropping the second match of the afternoon to Rochester 3-2 (25-18, 19-25, 18-25, 25-20, 13-15).

Sarah Walsh (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) and
Allie Desmond (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) led the front line with 26 and 24 kills, with freshman
Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) dishing 63 assists. Sophomore
Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) scooped 52 digs to lead the defense.

In the first match of the day, the Ospreys mounted a huge comeback behind a career-high 13 kills for Desmond.
Kara Glynn (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) added a double-double of 13 spikes, tying her career high, and setting a new personal mark of 18 digs in the five-set affair. Miller scooped a career-best 26 digs while Sullivan dished 35 assists and scooped 10 digs in her first collegiate match. Walsh added 12 kills to the total.

Against Rochester, Walsh scored a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs to lead the squad as Stockton came from behind once again to force a fifth set, but fell 15-13 in the final set.
Stephanie Kovacs (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) and Desmond chipped in with 11 kills each while Glynn added 10 spikes. Sullivan dished another 28 assists and Miller led the back line with 26 digs for the second straight match.

The Ospreys will return to the court at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic for a pair of matches tomorrow. Stockton faces Nazareth College at 11 am followed by their final match of the tournament, against Utica at 1:30 pm.
