Cortland, NY – Stockton University (3-1) picked up two more wins on the second day of the Cortland Red Dragon Classic. The Ospreys downed Nazareth 3-2 (20-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-14, 15-10) then blanked Utica 3-0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-15). Stockton won three out of four at the tourney and
Stephanie Kovacs (Allentown/Central Catholic) was chosen to the All-Tournament Team.
In the first match of the day against Nazareth, the Ospreys rallied by taking the final two sets. Kovacs led the charge with a career-high 22 kills followed by
Sarah Walsh (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) with 12.
Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) dished 31 assists and
Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) scooped 24 digs.
The Ospreys served 15 aces in the sweep over Utica, led by
Kennedy Hubbard (Moorestown/Moorestown) with seven. Walsh and Kovacs spiked 10 and nine kills respectively. Sullivan dished 12 assists and served four aces while freshman
Alice Brandt (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) added 10 assists.
Samantha Schreiber (Morton, PA/Ridley) paced the defense with a career-high 11 digs followed by
Erin Thompson (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) and Miller with eight apiece.
Stockton will have nearly a week off before competing in the New Paltz Hawks Invitational on September 8-9.
