Union, NJ – Stockton University (1-1) used two first-half goals and downed Emmanuel College (0-2) by a 2-0 final today at the Kean Cougar Classic.
Lindsey Thomas (Swedesboro/Kingsway) and
Michelle Sander (Ewing/Notre Dame) netted tallies as Stockton evened their record to 1-1 on the season.
Thomas got the Ospreys on the board in the 17th minute for a 1-0 lead. She fired a shot from the box to the left corner of the net with what proved to be the only tally Stockton would need.
With less than five minutes remaining before half, Sander took a pass across the box from
Alexa Chiaro (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West). The sophomore found the same spot that Thomas did for an insurance marker and stretched the Stockton lead to 2-0.
That would be all the scoring as the Ospreys kept up the pressure on Emmanuel, holding a 17-10 advantage on shots with 11 of them on net. The Saints used 30 players during the game but could not find a combination that was successful against the Ospreys.
Goalkeeper
Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) made four saves in the shutout victory for Stockton. Alexis Gawron kicked out nine Osprey attempts in taking the loss.
Stockton will take to the road for their next contest, at Moravian on Wednesday evening at 7 pm.
