Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-4-1) carried the majority of the play during the second half, but came away with a scoreless draw against Eastern University (2-3-2) on Wednesday night.
Mairead McKeary (Cranford/Cranford) and freshman
Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany) squeezed off six shots apiece for the Ospreys in the match.
Â
The teams were evenly matched through the first stanza as Stockton held a 7-3 advantage on shots but could only muster two attempts on net during the first half. The second half was all Ospreys as they peppered the Eagles defense for 13 shots to just one for the visitors, with six on net.
Â
McKeary had an excellent opportunity with just over four minutes to play but was turned away by Eagles' netminder Adrianna Rowlands.
Brenna Clowney (Mullica Hill/Clearview) also had a chance to give Stockton the lead at the two-minute mark, but she too was denied.
Â
LeDonne fired the last volley at the 40-second mark but Rowlands was up to the task once more and sent the game to extra frames. Eastern finally got untracked during the first overtime, forcing Stockton goalkeeper
Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) to make two saves.
Â
In the second OT, the Eagles fired off three attempts to none for Stockton. The best chance for either squad was a shot from Eastern's Alondra Cervantes, which Pallante turned away with under two minutes to play, and the contest ended in the 0-0 draw.
Â
Pallante made five saves in earning her second shutout of the season. Rowlands kicked out nine attempts to post her second whitewash of the year as well. Stockton held a 22-9 advantage on shots overall for the night.
Â
Stockton will return to conference play on Saturday when they will travel to Mahwah, NJ to face Ramapo. Game time is set for 1 pm.
