Stockton Extends Unbeaten Streak in Double OT

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (8-0-1, 2-0 NJAC) extended its unbeaten streak to nine with a 2-1 victory over Ramapo (3-5, 1-1) in double overtime. Eucario Solano (Galloway/Absegami) scored the game-winner on a free kick. Stockton's nine-game unbeaten streak is its longest ever to open a season.

Stockton drew a foul just outside the top right corner of the box four minutes into the second overtime. From 20 yards out, Solano calmly booted a left-footed shot that found the top right corner of the net to lift the Ospreys to victory. The goal was Solano's fourth of the season, tying him for the team lead.

The first half was uneventful, with each team managing just one shot on goal and each goalie making a fairly routine save. The Ospreys took a 1-0 lead 10:21 into the second half on a tally by Bobby Riordan (Tinton Falls/Monmouth). The play started with a corner kick and ended with Riordan splitting two defenders and floating a chip shot from the right wing into the far side for his second goal this year.

The lead was short-lived as Ramapo tied the match only 5:28 later. Two Roadrunners got behind the Stockton defense and a tap-in by Guilherme DeNovaes at the left post made it a 1-1 game. The squads combined for three shots in the last 23 minutes and the contest went to overtime.

Each keeper made a diving stop in the first OT to extend the match. Kellen Groover (Florence/Life Center) stretched out for a one-handed punch on a shot by Paul Montufar early in the period. Ramapo goalie Ryan Sprague dove to his right to smother a volley shot by Joseph Dikmak (Marlton/Cherokee) in the last minute.

The second overtime lasted 4:54 before Solano netted the game-winner with his free kick that gave Stockton the 2-1 triumph. Groover earned the victory with two saves while Sprague finished with three stops for Ramapo.

Stockton will play its next two games on the road, starting with an NJAC match at Rowan on Wednesday at 7 pm.
