Stockton Nipped by Elizabethtown in Overtime

Elizabethtown, PA – Stockton University (1-1) battled defending Landmark Conference champion Elizabethtown (1-1) for over 75 scoreless minutes before being nipped by the Blue Jays 1-0 in overtime. The game was the first road contest of the season for the Ospreys and first of three straight away from home this week.
 
Stockton goalkeeper Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) made nine saves and back Caroline Bowman (Ocean City/Ocean City) chipped in with a defensive save. Overall, the Ospreys were outshot 13-9 and edged 9-7 in penalty corners during a fairly even matchup in the first meeting between the teams since 2007.
 
Stockton had the better of the play in the first half, outshooting Elizabethtown 5-2 and holding a slight 4-3 advantage on corners. Sorochynskyj made one save and Bowman added a defensive save. The Blue Jays assumed control in the second half, topping Stockton 9-4 in shots and 6-3 in corners. Sorochynskyj kept the Ospreys alive with seven saves in the period.
 
Stockton was put on the defensive due to a yellow card just 11 seconds into overtime. The Ospreys survived the five minutes that they were shorthanded but never could gain any momentum. Elizabethtown's Emma Christman broke through for the game-winner 5:56 into the extra period to deal Stockton the 1-0 defeat.
 
Sarah Gawrysiak (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.) paced the Ospreys with three shots followed by Leah Davies (Ocean City/Ocean City) and Jennelle Long (Matawan/Matawan) with two apiece. Blue Jays' goalie Margo Donlin made three saves to keep Stockton off the board and post the shutout.
 
Stockton's three-game road trip continues on Wednesday with a visit to Swarthmore for a 4:30 pm tilt.
