Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (2-2) scored all three markers in a span of 6:26 in the second half, and evened their record with a 3-1 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan (0-2-1) on Saturday morning. Freshman
Dasey DiElmo (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) scored the first two goals of her career to lead the Ospreys.
The Battling Bishops broke the scoreless affair at 41:09 when miscommunication on the defensive end by Stockton resulted in an easy tally for Cydney Nichols for a 1-0 margin in favor of the visitors. That would be the only score in the half.
The Ospreys came out of the locker room with renewed vigor and DiElmo nailed the first goal of her young career to knot the game 4:14 into the period.
Emily Frazee (Port Republic/Cedar Creek) sent a pass to DiElmo, who made it count from the left wing to knot the game at 1-1.
In the 55th minute,
Lindsey Thomas (Swedesboro/Kingsway) scored the eventual game-winner on a header for a 2-1 advantage. Thomas netted a cross by Frazee from the right wing to give Stockton the lead for good. Frazee's assist was her second of the match.
Less than a minute later, DiElmo scored an important insurance marker to put the Ospreys up by two.
Alexa Aldredge (Cranford/Cranford) sent DiElmo a pass and her high shot from 12 yards out sealed the game at 3-1. The Battling Bishops nearly got one back with less than four minutes on a shot by Ella Burkhart that hit the crossbar.
Stockton held a 7-2 margin on shots in the second half and 3-0 on corners during the stanza. Goalkeeper
Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) made one save in the victory for Stockton. Ashley Major kicked out five Osprey attempts in taking the loss.
Stockton will have a short turnaround for their next game. The Ospreys will host Shenandoah tomorrow at 1 pm.
