Mahwah, NJ – Stockton University (11-7, 7-4 NJAC) used a stifling defense during the first half, and held on for a 65-57 road victory over Ramapo College (5-13, 2-9 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon.
Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/CH West) led the Ospreys with 27 points and 12 rebounds as Stockton won their fourth straight game.

The Roadrunners started quickly, holding a 12-8 advantage in the first period before the Ospreys got untracked. Williams and
Najha Treadwell (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) scored all 14 points for Stockton in taking a 14-12 lead at the end of the quarter.

Stockton turned up the defensive pressure on Ramapo, holding the home squad without a point for the last 4:19 of the first period and the first 4:54 of the second frame. The defense held the Roadrunners to just six points in the quarter, securing a 27-18 margin at the break. Treadwell had 12 points to top Stockton.

The second half would have more scoring from both squads as the pace began to pick up. Ramapo made a brief 8-2 run closing to 31-26 at 7:58 before Stockton righted the ship. Two foul shots by
April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point) boosted the margin back to 44-34, but Ramapo closed the third quarter scoring the last four markers to make it 44-38 after three periods.

A three ball by Jenna Harsh to start the fourth quarter closed the Stockton lead to just three at 44-41, but an 8-0 Osprey spurt made it 52-41, to help Stockton stave off the comeback from Ramapo. The Ospreys out scored Ramapo 21-19 with
Lea Mendolla tallying eight of her 10 points during the deciding final quarter, giving Stockton the 65-57 victory.

In addition to her 27 markers, Williams also grabbed a game-high 12 boards, dished four assists to tie Mendolla, blocked three shots and pilfered three steals. Treadwell finished with 16 points, on 7-9 (77.8%) shooting and eight rebounds. Mendolla scored 10 points with four helpers and three steals. Stockton shot 16-20 (80%) from the foul line in the game.

Harsh led Ramapo with 16 points while Jina Crawford added 12 markers. Jessica Repasy grabbed eight boards with Bridgette Buckalew adding four assists. Buckalew and Tia Solomon tied for game-high honors with four steals each for the Roadrunners.

Stockton will return home for their next game, as the Ospreys will take on The College of New Jersey on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
