Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stockton Surpassed by William Paterson

Wayne, NJ – Stockton University (11-9, 5-8 NJAC) was unable to match or slow down the hot shooting of William Paterson (11-9, 6-7), which hit at 50 percent from the field and 77.8 percent at the line on its home court to down the Ospreys 90-65.

Stockton went a strong 12-16 (75%) at the stripe but just 3-15 (20%) from three-point range in the game. Darius Jerkins (Somers Point/Mainland) was the lone Osprey in double figures with 15 points, one off his career high. Kashaun Barnes (Toms River/Manchester Twp.) scored nine points and Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Stockton stayed with the Pioneers for the first 14 minutes and trailed by just two at 24-22 after a three-pointer by Zavon Johnson (Trenton/West Windsor-Plainsboro South). The Ospreys hit a slump and scored only four points in 5:53 before Ferebee ended the first half with a three-pointer that made it 40-29 in WPU's favor at intermission.

The second half began with a basket by Kelvin Tull (Millville/Millville) followed by a dunk and then layup, both by Jerkins, to pull Stockton within 40-35. William Paterson answered with 10 straight points to boost the margin back to 15. The Ospreys reeled off seven markers in a row to slice the deficit to eight at 50-42 with 14:20 on the clock.

The comeback try stalled there as the Pioneers outscored Stockton 20-6 over the next six minutes. Overall, the Ospreys fell victim to 51.5 percent shooting (17-33) by William Paterson in the second half and suffered the 90-65 setback.

Stockton will play two games at home next week, beginning with an NJAC contest against Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday at 8 pm.
