Hoboken, NJ – Stockton University (21-6) had its 14-match winning streak halted with a pair of setbacks at the Stevens Invitational. The Ospreys were edged 3-2 by Scranton (16-12) in a match where they lost the first two sets, won the next two but were outlasted 18-16 in the fifth. Stockton then was swept by #18 Ithaca College (14-5) 3-0.
Allie Desmond (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) smacked a career-high 25 kills and tallied seven blocks against Scranton.
Christie Louer (Clifton/Clifton) contributed 11 kills and a career-high 19 digs while
Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) totaled 47 assists, 14 digs and nine kills.
Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) scooped 19 digs and
Grace Brandt (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) added a career-high 17 digs. Stockton trailed 13-10 in the fifth set before rallying to tie at 14, 15 and 16 until Scranton scored two straight points to knock off the Ospreys 18-16.
Stockton fell to Ithaca 25-21, 27-25, 25-19 in the second match of the night. Desmond had eight kills followed by
Julie Kohlhoff (West Islip, NY/West Islip) and
Charlotte Leon (Northport, NY/Northport) with six kills apiece. Sullivan registered 23 assists, nine digs and five kills. Brandt topped her brief career high from the previous match with a new career best of 18 digs.
Stockton will continue play at the Stevens Invitational tomorrow with matches against Haverford at 1 pm and host Stevens at 3 pm.
