Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (10-3-3, 4-1-2 NJAC) scored the first three goals of the game and held on for a 3-2 victory over Montclair State (9-3-3, 4-2-1) on Saturday night.
Emily Frazee (Port Republic/Cedar Creek) scored two goals 43 seconds apart, the second of which proved to be the game-winner.
Although the Ospreys were outshot 13-6, they capitalized on their opportunities by scoring on three of their first five shots. Freshman
Susan Porambo (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) gave Stockton an early 1-0 lead just 8:15 into the game. Porambo's shot from the top of the box went through the keeper's hands for her fourth goal of the season.
The one-goal edge last until Frazee struck quickly with 15 minutes were gone in the second half. The junior took advantage of a failed clear by the Red Hawks to net her fourth marker of the season at 60:04. Just 43 seconds later, Frazee received a cross from
Kiersten Reszkowski (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) and potted her fifth goal of the year to increase the lead to 3-0.
The three-goal margin seemed comfortable with 15 minutes to go before Montclair State's Lindsay Bathmann got on the board at 75:05. The Red Hawks pulled within 3-2 on a goal by Emily DeGeyter with 3:42 remaining but the Ospreys did not allow a shot the rest of the way to seal the victory.
Stockton goalkeeper
Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) earned the win with four saves. Lindsay Freewalt made three stops for Montclair State.
The Ospreys will be on the road again on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference game at Centenary that kicks off at 3 pm.
