Stockton Falls Late to Eastern 2-1

St. David's, PA – Stockton University (7-6-3) surrendered two late goals and dropped a tough 2-1 match to Eastern University (11-2-1) on Monday afternoon. Christian Bik (Vineland/St. Augustine Prep) tallied the only marker for the Ospreys. The loss snapped a four-match unbeaten streak for Stockton.

Stockton started strong, getting an early shot on net by Eucario Solano (Galloway/Absegami) just 51 seconds into the contest. The Ospreys defense was solid throughout the first half, allowing just three shots, with only one on net during the frame.

Stockton nearly broke the scoreless tie in the 44th minute. Justin Ruiz (Wayne/Wayne Hills) had a shot blocked, but Joseph Dikmak (Marlton/Cherokee) fired the rebound that was turned away and the match remained in a 0-0 deadlock at the break.

The Ospreys broke the deadlock in the second half, when Bik tallied his seventh goal of the season and third in the last four games at 51:51. Solano served a free kick that found Villy Fortulus (Winslow Twp./Winslow Twp.) by the side of the Eagles' net. Fortulus passed to Bik, whose header hit the twine for the 1-0 lead.

The Eagles started applying pressure with just over 22 minutes left and never relented. That pressure paid off at 82:42 when Sam Sutherland potted the game tying goal. Billy Walenda gained the end line and found Sutherland for the 1-1 tie.

2:12 later, Eastern scored what would be the game winning marker. Cade Harmon hit Jacob Myers in front with a pass. His header found the lower right corner for the 2-1 lead and eventual final score.

Dikmak led all Ospreys with two shots on net, but the Eagles held a 9-2 advantage on corners that kept the Stockton defense pinned back for much of the second half.

Goalkeeper Michael Lescano (Union/St. Benedict's) took the loss in net, making one save. Anthony Hitchcock kicked out three shots in net for Eastern in earning his seventh win of the season.

Stockton will play the second of a three-match road swing for their next tilt on Wednesday night. The Ospreys will face St. Joe-LI in Patchogue, NY, with the match set for 7 pm.
