Stockton Wins 10th Straight Match

Newark, NJ – Stockton University (17-4, 4-0 NJAC) rolled to a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers-Newark (12-5, 2-2) in an NJAC road match. The win was the 10th in a row for the Ospreys and kept them unbeaten in conference play.
 
Allie Desmond (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) led the way with a match-high 16 kills and a .462 hitting percentage. Franceska Gustave (Edgewater/Leonia) chipped in with seven kills and two blocks. Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) dished 25 assists and added nine digs and two aces.
 
Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) led all players with 13 digs and handed out six assists. All 17 Ospreys saw action in the match, with nine of them registering at least one kill.
 
Stockton used an early 9-2 run in the first set to build an 11-4 lead. Sullivan later served two aces during a 6-0 outburst that made it 20-8 on the way to a 25-14 rout.
 
In the second set, Stockton held a slim 13-11 edge before pulling away with a 10-2 run. Desmond caught fire with six kills during the spurt, which ended with the Ospreys on top 23-13 en route to a 25-18 win.
 
The third frame was close throughout and tied at 18 when Desmond pounded two straight kills to give Stockton the lead for good at 20-18. The senior added two more spikes down the stretch as the Ospreys sealed the match, 25-21.
 
Stockton will host a tri-match at The Sports Center on Saturday, with the Ospreys facing Widener at 1 pm and NYU at 5 pm. Widener and NYU will square off at 3 pm in between the Stockton matches.
