Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (12-3-4) played a tightly contested match with Washington College (MD) (7-5-1), and finished with a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. Â
Susan Porambo (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) and
Alexa Simonetti (Wayne/Wayne Valley) tallied the goals for the Ospreys, who extended their unbeaten string to four straight matches.
Â
Stockton broke into the scoring column first, as Porambo floated a shot from a sharp angle into the far right corner for the 1-0 lead at 22:45. The lead lasted just 1:51 as the Shorewomen knotted the match. A header by Lindsay Russell, off a free kick by Arianna Sabatino, drew the visitors even at 1-1. The contest would remain at that score through the rest of the half as the teams fought for every inch of the pitch.
Â
The Ospreys again took a lead in the second period as Simonetti tallied her sixth goal of the season in the 53rd minute.
Brenna Clowney (Mullica Hill/Clearview) gained control in the Washington end and her pass allowed Simonetti a tap-in for the 2-1 advantage.
Â
The Shorewomen scored the tying marker as Lauren Neary tapped in a goal past Stockton keeper
Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) for the 2-2 deadlock. Her tally, from Briana Parise, came in the 71st minute of regulation. Washington College had one last chance to win the game in regulation, but a shot hit the cross bar with 1:29 remaining.
Â
Porambo had the best opportunity in the first extra frame, but her blast sailed wide left and the match went to another overtime period. Russell hit the cross bar 3:26 into the final period, then Pallante made the save of the game just over a minute later. One Shorewomen shot was blocked but Pallante stopped the rebound from point blank range, as Stockton escaped with the 2-2 tie.
Â
Pallante, who was honored before the game on Senior Day, made five saves in net for the Ospreys. Courtney Colbert played the first half in net, making two stops for Washington College. Annalie Buscarino played the rest of the match, also kicking out two shots in goal.
Â
Stockton will finish the regular season on Wednesday night, when they will travel to Camden for an NJAC match with Rutgers-Camden. Game time is set for 7 pm and the contest will have a bearing on seeding for the NJAC Playoffs starting next Saturday.
