Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-3, 1-1 NJAC) played the first of two straight games against ranked NJAC opponents and was overwhelmed 6-0 by #7 Rowan University (11-0, 2-0), which is undefeated on the season.
Stockton goalkeeper
Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) and the Osprey defense were under attack throughout the contest as the Profs fired 27 shots. Gilligan made a season-high 10 saves in the game.
After a couple of early forays into the offensive zone by Stockton, Rowan flexed its muscle with goals by Kristiina Castagnola and Molly Gorczyca less than two minutes apart for an early 2-0 count.
Stockton's best scoring chance came on a penalty corner shortly after Rowan's Bridget Guinan made it 3-0. The ball came to
Victoria Caiazzo (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) in the middle of the arc, where she spun and fired a shot that was blocked by a Rowan defender.
Rachel Galante scored the fourth goal for the Profs with 13:28 gone in the second half. Krystyna Hovell added to the total at 56:59 and Castagnola potted her second marker of the night 1:28 later to end the scoring in the 6-0 final.
Caiazzo and
Issy Gilhooley (Ocean City/Ocean City) each registered their second defensive save of the season for the Ospreys. Rowan goalie Morgan Novak did not face a shot on goal in earning the shutout for the Profs.
Stockton faces another difficult test on Saturday when the Ospreys visit #10 Montclair State for a conference game that starts at 1 pm.
