Collegeville, PA – Stockton University (6-5-1) started slowly but came alive in the second half to defeat Ursinus College (0-8-2) by a 3-2 score on Wednesday night.
Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Hts./Hasbrouck Hts.) led the Ospreys with a goal and assist on the night.
The teams were scoreless until the 28th minute when the Bears struck first. Off a corner kick, Justin Molyneaux rifled a one-timer to the upper right corner for a 1-0 lead for the home team. The Ospreys would respond to even the score with just over two minutes remaining in the half.
Freshman
Villy Fortulus (Winslow Twp./Winslow Twp.) took a pass from
Max Bond (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West), made a move to the center, and from 20 yards out, fired a shot to the low right corner for the equalizer at 1-1. The goal was Fortulus' seventh of the season, leading the squad.
Stockton took control in the second half as they potted two more goals. Gjeli took a free kick from about 40 yards out and
Eucario Solano (Galloway/Absegami) tallied on a header to give Stockton a 2-1 lead at 57:58.
With just over nine minutes left, Gjeli scored his first goal of the year on a 25-yard free kick to the top right corner for a 3-1 advantage, but the Bears would make things interesting.
Molyneaux fired his second goal of the night past goalkeeper
Michael Lescano (Union/St. Benedict's) in the 86th minute for slice the margin to 3-2. Stockton was able to stave off the late rally and come away with the one-goal road victory.
Lescano made two saves in his third straight start in net for the victory. His counterpart, Matthew Kenwood kicked out three Stockton shots on net for Ursinus.
Stockton will return home for their next match as they will face William Paterson in an NJAC contest. Game time is set for 3 pm on Saturday afternoon.
