Stockton Falls to #3 Rowan in NJAC Semifinals

Glassboro, NJ – Stockton University (12-6) fell to unbeaten Rowan University (19-0) 3-0 in the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament. The Ospreys made their first NJAC playoff appearance since 2013 and were the #4 seed while Rowan was the #1 seed and is ranked third in the nation by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Stockton goalkeeper Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) tied her season high with 10 saves. Gilligan also made 10 stops in the regular season meeting against Rowan. Although the Ospreys were outshot 20-2, they kept the game scoreless into the second half before yielding three goals to the Profs.

Both of Stockton's shots came in the first half, including one by Victoria Caiazzo (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) on a penalty corner that was the lone shot on goal for the Ospreys in the game. Gilligan made four saves in the first half to keep the contest scoreless.

Rowan dialed up the offensive pressure in the second half with 12 shots and nine penalty corners. Stockton surrendered the first goal 2:50 into the period and another 10 minutes later for a 2-0 count. A late tally with 1:13 remaining made the final score 3-0 as Stockton was eliminated from the NJAC Tournament.

In addition to Caiazzo's shot on goal, Issy Gilhooley (Ocean City/Ocean City) also registered one shot for the Ospreys.

Stockton hopes to continue its season with an invitation to the ECAC Tournament. The ECAC bracket will be revealed on November 5.
