Stockton Pushes Winning Streak to 13 with 3-1 Win

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (20-4, 5-0 NJAC) extended their winning streak to 13 straight matches with a 3-1 victory (21-25, 25-14, 27-25, 25-14) over Montclair State (12-6, 3-3 NJAC) on Tuesday night. Allie Desmond (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) led the Ospreys with 17 kills while teammate Christie Louer (Clifton/Clifton) posted her first career double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs.
 
The Red Hawks came out strong to open the match, leading by as many as 10 points (21-11) before Stockton rallied. Five service points by Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) and two by Sophia Marziello (Haddonfield/Paul VI) brought the Ospreys within 24-21 before Montclair scored the set point at 25-21.
 
Set number two saw the teams trade points until Stockton was able to pull away. With the score knotted at 8-8, the Ospreys outscored the Red Hawks 17-6 the rest of the way behind three kills, two assists and a block from Sullivan to take the set 25-14.
 
Stockton squandered a 15-9 advantage in the third set as Montclair State fended off three set points and fought back to tie 25-25. A kill by Louer and tandem block by Desmond and Franceska Gustave (Edgewater/Leonia) clinched the set at 27-25.
 
Stockton dominated the fourth set. Desmond sparked the Ospreys to an 11-4 lead with three kills and a block. Louer later accounted for Stockton's last five points with five kills as the Ospreys sealed the victory, 25-14, running the win streak to 13 straight and staying unbeaten in conference play.
 
Sullivan dished 38 assists, tallied eight kills and eight digs and tied Louer with three aces to top the Ospreys. Cady DeLay (San Diego, CA/Westview) scooped a career-high 17 digs to lead the back line. Julie Kohlhoff (West Islip, NY/West Islip) had eight blocks to go along with eight kills.
 
Carly Waterman topped the Red Hawks with a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs. Leah Higgins and Natalia Majkut spiked 13 and 10 kills respectively. Ashley Griffith dished 34 assists, with Alexandra Campos scooping 14 digs on the backline.
 
Stockton will try to keep their NJAC record unblemished when they travel to Mahwah on Thursday to face Ramapo at 7 pm.
