Philadelphia, PA – Stockton University visited the fabled Palestra to play the University of Pennsylvania in an exhibition game on Saturday afternoon. The Ospreys fell 112-63 to Penn in the contest, which does not count towards either team's record. The Palestra, Penn's home court, has hosted more NCAA Tournament games than any other arena in the country.
Keenan Williams Jr. (Paulsboro/Paulsboro) paced Stockton with 11 points followed by
Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) and
Travis Holland (Toms River/TR North) with nine points apiece. Holland scored all of his points in the second half. Taylor went 3-6 (50%) from three-point range and also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Stockton hung around early against the defending Ivy League champions, trailing 22-14 after a putback by
Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) eight minutes into the game. The Ospreys were still within 31-20 after two free throws by
Tahir McCrea (Jersey City/Lincoln) with 8:28 on the clock. Penn asserted itself late in the half and the score was 60-33 at the break.
The Ospreys used 10 players in the first half, with nine of them scoring points. Taylor hit two three-pointers for six points and
Othniel Nyamekye (Irvington/Irvington) came off the bench to toss in six markers in just under seven minutes of playing time.
Stockton went scoreless for the first three-and-a-half minutes of the second half before a three-pointer by Williams made it 66-36. Overall, the Ospreys were outscored 52-30 in a fast-paced second half. Head coach
Scott Bittner emptied the bench in the last four minutes, with all with 15 healthy players seeing action in one of the most famous college basketball arenas in the nation.
Stockton returns home to host Rutgers-Camden in an NJAC game on Wednesday at 6 pm.
