Stockton Falls to Rutgers-Camden 76-70

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (1-4, 0-2 NJAC) led for nearly 30 minutes but was overtaken by Rutgers-Camden (4-2, 1-1) in the fourth quarter and fell 76-70. Four Ospreys scored in double figures led by Kirsten Flournoy (Sewell/Timber Creek) and April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point) with 17 points apiece.
 
Flournoy grabbed nine rebounds and Peterson snagged eight boards. Raquel Harris-Scott (Pine Hill/Overbrook) notched a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as Stockton outrebounded Rutgers-Camden 41-25 in the game. Freshman point guard Emily Donzanti (Toms River/TR South) also posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 assists.
 
Stockton made six of its first seven shots and broke out to a 13-3 lead behind eight points by Flournoy in the opening five minutes. The Ospreys shot a blistering 11-14 (78.6%) from the field in the first quarter and led 26-18 after one period.
 
Stockton cooled off only slightly in the second stanza, hitting 9-15 (60%) from the floor. Rutgers-Camden took a brief 33-32 edge before Harris-Scott scored five points during a 9-1 run that put the Ospreys on top 41-34. Rutgers-Camden later shaved the margin to 46-42 at the break. Flournoy and Peterson paced Stockton with 11 and 10 first-half points respectively.
 
The Scarlet Raptors pulled ahead 54-51 in the third quarter, but Harris-Scott and Peterson each scored three points during an 8-2 spurt that put the Ospreys back on top 59-56. Tamara Johnson then sank a three-pointer in the closing seconds that tied the game 59-59 after three.
 
The fourth period was tied four times before Rutgers-Camden took the lead for good at 70-69 with 2:14 remaining. Stockton fell behind 72-69 and Donzanti sank a free throw to get within 72-70 at the 1:27 mark. Flournoy's shot to tie with a minute to go was off the mark and the Scarlet Raptors added four late points for the 76-70 final.
 
Wykira Johnson-Kelly led all players with 22 points for Rutgers-Camden. Tamara Johnson and Fatimah Williams tossed in 14 markers apiece and Gabby Greene netted 13 points.
 
After four straight home games, Stockton will hit the road for an NJAC matchup at Ramapo on Saturday at 3 pm.
