Ashland, VA – Stockton University (6-5) fell victim to a barrage of three-pointers by fellow New Jersey team Drew University (8-2) and suffered a 93-60 setback in the first round of the Randolph-Macon Coaches Tournament. The defeat sent the Ospreys to the consolation game tomorrow at 2 pm.
Drew shot a blistering 21-33 (63.6%) from three-point range and Stockton was unable to keep pace, hitting just 2-18 (11.1%) from beyond the arc.
Keenan Williams Jr. (Paulsboro/Paulsboro) led the Ospreys with 13 points and
Tariq Baker (Brooklyn, NY/St. Anthony's) also hit double figures with 11 markers.
After ties at 4-4 and 5-5 early, Drew used a 13-3 run to open up an 18-8 advantage. Two straight buckets by Stockton made it 18-12 but the game spiraled out of control for the Ospreys from there. After trailing by as much as 21 at 41-20 late in the half, Stockton faced a 44-26 deficit at the break.
The Ospreys got within 14 three times in the second half. The third came on a jumper by Williams Jr. that made the score 59-45 with 11:12 to play, but Stockton could get no closer. Drew continued its long-range assault, shooting a torrid 10-15 (66.7%) from three-point range in the half to keep the Ospreys at bay. The margin was 20 or more for the last 10 minutes and Stockton fell 93-60.
Tahir McCrea (Jersey City/Lincoln) tossed in eight points on 4-5 shooting while
Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) topped the Ospreys with five rebounds and three blocks to go with five points. Sky Harris and Darius Reiter shot a combined 10-13 from outside the arc and scored 18 points apiece for Drew.
Stockton will face the loser of Carroll vs. Randolph-Macon in the consolation game of the Randolph-Macon Coaches Tournament tomorrow at 2 pm.
