Stockton Sweeps Two on First Day In Florida

Minneola, FL- Stockton University (3-1) opened up their annual 10-game stretch in Florida with a pair of victories. The Ospreys downed Anderson University (IN) by an 8-4 score in game one and then outslugged Framingham State (MA) by an 11-8 margin. Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) led the attack with five hits on the day.

Stockton started the day strong in the first contest as Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover/Hanover Park) blasted her first homer of the year for a quick 1-0 lead. The squad plated three more runs in the second on three hits, a suicide squeeze bunt by Chelsea Thomas (Barrington/Haddon Heights) and a Carli Shaw (Bordentown/Bordentown) RBI to make it 4-0.

Pinch-hitter Megan Katzmar (Cinnaminson/Holy Cross) picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice in the third frame, then the Ospreys added two more tallies the next inning. Shaw and Thomas reached on hits, each stole a base, then scored on a Meg Murzello (Maple Shade/Holy Cross) groundout and an error for a 7-1 advantage after four innings.

Anderson plated three runs in their half of the sixth inning before Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) came in to shut the door. The senior pitched 1.2 innings to record the save, giving freshman Marissa Semeraro (Ridgefield/Ridgefield) her first career win.  Semeraro tossed four innings, allowing three hits and an unearned run.

The second game saw the two teams combine for 19 runs and 21 hits in the slugfest. Stockton jumped out to a 10-1 lead after three innings, the big blow coming on a Murzello bases-clearing triple in a six-run third inning uprising. The Rams fought back, plating six runs of their own to make it a 10-7 Stockton lead after four innings.

Both team scored a run in their half of the fifth inning, but that was all the scoring and the Ospreys escaped with the 11-8 win. Hanna Bibeault (Hopatcong/Hopatcong) earned her second win of the year, throwing 6.2 innings and allowing just two runs. Massa and Murzello led the 13-hit onslaught with three knocks each while Shaw, Murzello, Cosenzo and Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) scored two runs each.

Stockton will be back at it again tomorrow as they take on Franklin & Marshall at 9 am then face Smith College (MA) at 11 am. Both games will be in Minneola.
