Clermont, FL- Stockton University (7-3) returned to action after a day off and split their two games today. The Ospreys downed UMass Dartmouth 8-2 to run their win streak to five straight, before falling to Concordia (WI) 7-1 in the night cap.
Meg Murzello (Maple Shade/Holy Cross) led the Ospreys with five hits and three steals on the day, extending her hitting streak to seven straight games.
Stockton unleashed a 16-hit attack in game one against UMass Dartmouth. Trailing 1-0 after two innings, Stockton knotted the game in the third frame. Murzello and
Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover/Hanover Park) singled putting runners at the corners. Â
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) plated Murzello with a beautiful squeeze bunt for the 1-1 tie.
The Ospreys took the lead for good the next inning on a double steal by
Chelsea Thomas (Barrington/Haddon Heights) and
Morgan DiVello (Atco/Hammonton) with DiVello scoring from third. Thomas also pilfered three bases on the day for Stockton.
Stockton broke the game open with a three spot in the fifth inning on RBI by Massa,
Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp. /Monroe Twp.) and an error for a 5-1 lead. Two more in the sixth and a single run in the seventh offset a run by UMass Dartmouth to set the final at 8-2.
Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) earned her first win of the year scattering five hits, and striking out four in the complete game victory.
Concordia took control of the second game scoring four times against freshman
Samantha Huetter (Roseland/West Essex) in the top of the first inning. Stockton scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the first. Murzello singled and stole second base and scored on a two out hit by Massa.
That was as close as the Ospreys would get as Falcons hurler Nicole Lewis scattered six hits over seven innings, allowing just the one run, keeping the Stockton offense at bay in the 7-1 defeat.
Stockton will finish up their 10-game Florida swing tomorrow evening. The Ospreys take on Transylvania (KY) at 4:30 pm then will face Millikin University (IL) at 7 pm.
