Stockton Holds Off McDaniel for 16-13 Win

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (2-2) unleashed a seven-goal barrage in a four-minute span of the second quarter and held off McDaniel (5-3) in the fourth period for a 16-13 victory. Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern) and Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) scored six goals apiece, with Tiernan also dishing one assist for a game-high seven points.

Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic) contributed two goals and four assists for six points on the day. Stockton went scoreless for the first 18 minutes of the game but only trailed 2-0 thanks to some solid defense. After Swedlund started the seven-goal spree, Anthony Brigati (Wayne/Wayne Hills) won the ensuing faceoff, raced in and scored his first career goal eight seconds later to tie the match 2-2.

Three goals by Tiernan and one each from Swedlund and Caposella completed the run of seven straight that gave the Ospreys a 7-2 lead. McDaniel stemmed the tide with three consecutive tallies before Swedlund netted the last marker of the first half for an 8-5 Stockton lead at the break.

Tiernan scored 12 seconds into the third quarter and added another counter, followed by two from Swedlund in a 16-second span to give Stockton a commanding 12-5 advantage. Two goals from the Green Terror were countered by one from Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon), and the Ospreys were on top 13-7 after three.

McDaniel tried to rally in the fourth quarter, scoring the first three goals of the period to close within 13-10. The teams then alternated markers, with each team potting three in the last 8:15. Stockton's goals came from Tiernan, Swedlund and Caposella as the Ospreys maintained at least a three-goal cushion and prevailed 16-13.

Stockton goalkeeper Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) earned the win with nine saves. Brigati won 14 of 22 faceoffs and scooped six ground balls. Micah Brooks paced McDaniel with four goals while Carson Marshall tallied a goal and three assists. Goalie Jakob Katzen made 11 saves for the Green Terror.
