Second Half Surge Propels Stockton to Win

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-2) scored nine second-half goals and pulled away from Calvin College (2-6) by a 13-7 score on Thursday afternoon. Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic) with three goals and three assists, and Zack Aho (Shamong/Seneca), with four tallies and two helpers, led the offense with six points each.
 
The Knights started the scoring with a goal in the first period before Caposella answered with his first of the day. Aho dished the assist for the 1-1 tie. After Calvin took another one-goal lead, Eric Ellis (Voorhees/Eastern) scored from Caposella with 6.2 seconds remaining to forge a 2-2 tie at the end of period number one.
 
Calvin again took a 3-2 advantage at the beginning of the second quarter but that would be the last lead of the afternoon for the visitors. Caposella fired in two more scores, with an assist from Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) on the second, for a 4-3 advantage at the break.
 
The Ospreys exploded for four straight goals in the third quarter for an 8-3 lead. Aho tallied three goals and an assist during the surge. Freshman Peter Burke (Shamong/Seneca) assisted on Aho's third goal for his first career point. The Knights answered with a pair of goals to cut the margin to 8-5 at the end of the period.
 
The Knights opened the final frame with a score to close it to 8-6 in favor of the home team before Stockton put the game away for good. Swedlund scored a pair of goals, with Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern), Aho and Colin Wharton (Cinnaminson/Camden Catholic)  also hitting the net. Wharton's tally was the first of his career.
 
Freshman Will Pellicier (Monrovia, MD/Linganore) registered his first career point with an assist on Aho's final score. Calvin was able to tally one final marker to set the score at 13-7.
 
Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) made four saves in 54:56 for his third win of the season. Freshman Thomas Sullivan (Morristown/Morristown) finished up in net without having to make a save in his college debut. Anthony Brigati (Wayne/Wayne Hills) had a strong day at the faceoff dot, winning 18 of 24 draws.
 
Joseph Gandara and Joe Son scored twice each for the Knights. Goalkeeper Mitchell Wong kicked out 16 shots for the visitors.
 
The Ospreys will be back in action for another home match on Saturday afternoon. The Ospreys will face off against Misericordia University at 4pm.
