Stockton Edged 13-11 by Unbeaten Misericordia

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-3) erased a four-goal deficit to forge a tie with 6:57 remaining but yielded the last two goals of the game and fell to unbeaten Misericordia (6-0) by a slim 13-11 margin. Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon) led the Ospreys with two goals and two assists for four points on the day.
 
Zack Aho (Shamong/Seneca) and Erik Anderson (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) each contributed two goals and an assist while Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) potted two goals for the Ospreys. Stockton outshot the Cougars 48-33 but finished with 24 shots on goal and another 24 wide, high or blocked.
 
Jon Liguori (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) gave Stockton a 1-0 lead 1:20 into the game with his first goal of the season. After Misericordia tied it 1-1, Anderson and Gallo scored 1:20 apart to build a 3-1 cushion. The Ospreys then went scoreless for the rest of the half, a duration of 21:36, while the Cougars reeled off five straight tallies to put Stockton into a 6-3 hole at the break.
 
The scoring pace accelerated in the third quarter as the teams combined for 10 goals. Aho snapped Stockton's drought 47 seconds into the period but Misericordia answered 55 seconds later. Freshman Will Pellicier (Monrovia, MD/Linganore) netted his first career goal and Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic) followed to bring the Ospreys within 7-6.
 
Misericordia then came back with three markers in a span of 1:49 to create some separation at 10-6. Gallo, Swedlund and Anderson countered for Stockton in the last 4:15 of the quarter to bring the margin back down to one at 10-9 entering the fourth stanza.
 
The Cougars struck first but Aho made it a one-goal game again at 11-10. After over four scoreless minutes, Swedlund scored with an assist but Caposella to knot the game at 11-11, the first tie since late in the first quarter. The Ospreys just could not get over the hump as Chris Fleming put Misericordia on top for good with 5:07 to play and a goal by Paul Hanrahan with 2:12 on the clock sealed the outcome, with Stockton falling 13-11.
 
Ospreys' goalkeeper Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) made a season-high 12 saves in the contest. Max Pukenas (Medford/Shawnee) chipped in defensively with a game-high four caused turnovers plus two ground balls.
 
Hanrahan paced Misericordia with a game-high five goals and one assist for six points, followed by Phil Fraher with two goals and an assist. Goalie Matthew Beck earned the win with 13 saves for the Cougars.
 
Stockton will conclude a six-game homestand on Wednesday when the Ospreys host DeSales at 7 pm.
