Madison, NJ – Stockton University (3-2) was outscored 5-2 by Drew University (5-2) in the second half and suffered a 9-5 setback in its first game after returning from Hilton Head. Five different Ospreys scored one goal apiece in a game that was fairly even from a statistical standpoint.
Melanie Patterson (Jackson/Jackson Liberty) registered a goal and a team-high three draw controls while
Kristen Russo (Wayne/Wayne Hills) tallied a goal, three ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control. Each team recorded 17 shots on goal, eight draw controls and 20 turnovers.
Abbey Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) gave Stockton its only lead of the game 51 seconds after the opening draw. The Rangers then reeled off three straight goals for a 3-1 count. Patterson made it 3-2 and then
Nicole Jandras (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) scored the tying goal for the Ospreys. Drew went back on top with 1:21 left in the first half and the score was 4-3 Rangers at the break.
Stockton surrendered four goals in the first six minutes of the second half for an 8-3 deficit that was too much to overcome.
Michaella Butrico (South Plainfield/South Plainfield) snapped Drew's run of goals and Russo followed to pull the Ospreys within 8-5 with 6:34 remaining. Drew answered just 34 seconds after Russo's marker and held Stockton scoreless the rest of the way for the 9-5 final.
