Stockton Wins Streak Snapped by #23 Rowan

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (8-4, 1-1 NJAC) saw their modest three game win streak snapped by #23 Rowan University (8-1, 2-0 NJAC) 17-8 on Tuesday evening. Gaby Ojeda (Galloway/Absegami), Kristen Russo (Wayne/Wayne) and Michaella Butrico (South Plainfield/South) scored two goals each for the Ospreys.

The Profs are ranked nationally by the IWLCA Coaches poll and gave Stockton their first home loss of the season after five straight wins on the home turf.

The Ospreys got on the board first as Butrico scored 1:38 into the contest. The Profs answered with three straight goals, before Ojeda cut the margin in half at 4-2. Butrico again tallied to make it 6-3 after two scores by the visitors with 12:18 left in the first half, but Rowan tallied three more times to take a commanding 9-3 advantage with 8:46 left.

Stockton would fight back with three markers on two goals by Russo and one by Ojeda to cut the lead to three at 9-6, before Rowan tallied to make it 10-6 at the break. That was as close as the Ospreys would come as the Profs outscored Stockton 7-2 during the final 30 minutes of play for the 17-8 final.

In addition to her two scores, Russo grabbed a game-high eight draw controls, with Amanda Scarpa (Manalapan/Freehold Twp.) causing two turnovers and freshman Olivia Paolillo (Freehold/Colts Neck) scooping a team-high three ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper Stevie Ader (Califon/Voorhees) set a new career-high with 15 saves in net.

Rowan was led by Kim Doyle with five goals and Ashley Lechliter with four markers. Goalkeeper Erin Horner kicked out six shots in earning the win.

The Ospreys will travel to Union, NJ on Saturday, when the Ospreys will face Kean University. Game time is set for 1 pm.
