Stockton Cruises to 17-7 Win over Golden Eagles

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-3) extended their winning streak to six straight games as the Ospreys cruised to a 17-7 win over St. Joseph's-LI (6-5) on Tuesday night. Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic) scored five goals to lead the Ospreys.  
 
Stockton opened up a 4-1 lead after the first period as Caposella, Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern), Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) and Eric Ellis (Voorhees/Eastern) scored to offset a Golden Eagles tally. Ellis potted his second of the night for a 5-1 lead in the second frame before the visitors got one back for a 5-2 margin.
 
Caposella and Swedlund then hit the net twice each to answer an Eagles goal to put the score at 9-3 at the break in favor of the Ospreys. Stockton then put the game away with a 5-0 third period for a commanding 14-3 advantage. Tiernan and Ellis scored followed by two straight from Caposella, including his second man-up goal of the night, and then a marker by Jon Liguori (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) capped the 5-0 quarter.
 
The final period became academic with St. Joseph's able to outscore Stockton 4-3. Swedlund, Brandon Nunez (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) and Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon) scored for Stockton and set the final score at 17-7.
 
Swedlund finished with four goals while Gallo scored once and had three assists on the night. Ellis chipped in with a pair of markers and two helpers for four points. Chris Holleritter (Oak Ridge/Jefferson Twp.) led the defense with seven of the 26 ground balls for the Ospreys on the night. Stockton outshot the Golden Eagles by a massive 56-25 margin in the game.
 
Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) picked up the win with 11 saves, playing the first 53:53 in net for Stockton. Thomas Sullivan (Morristown/Morristown) finished up, kicking out two shots in the final 6:07.
 
Chris Nielsen and Casey Hickey led St. Joseph's with two goals apiece, with Hickey also dishing two assists. Adam Sivon started in net making seven saves in the first half. Ryan Wheeler played the second half and kicked out 10 shots.
 
The Ospreys will travel to New London, CT for their next game, as they will take on Connecticut College on Saturday. Game time is set for 1pm.
