New London, CT – Stockton University (9-4) struggled to score in the second half and saw its six-game winning streak halted by Connecticut College (10-4) with a 13-6 setback. The Ospreys netted just one goal after halftime and were defeated for the first time in nearly a month (March 24).
Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) scored three of Stockton's six goals and dished two assists.
Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic),
Zack Aho (Shamong/Seneca) and
Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon) potted one marker apiece. Caposella's goal brought his career total to 197 points.
Connecticut College started quickly, scoring just seven seconds into the game for a quick 1-0 edge. Stockton responded with goals by Aho and Gallo to pull ahead 2-1. The Camels potted two straight counters to pull ahead 3-2 entering the second quarter.
Three minutes into the second stanza, Swedlund's first of the game tied the score 3-3. Connecticut answered with two goals 11 seconds apart and later added another for a 6-3 count. Caposella got one back for the Ospreys and Swedlund barely beat the halftime buzzer to bring Stockton within 6-5 at the break.
The game slipped away from the Ospreys in the third quarter as Connecticut netted three straight tallies in a four-minute span to put Stockton down 9-5. Swedlund scored with 3:54 remaining in the third period to make it 9-6 but the Ospreys went scoreless for the rest of the game, over 18 minutes, and fell to the Camels 13-6.
Ryan Bradley (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) topped Stockton with five ground balls and tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with
Chris Holleritter (Oak Ridge/Jefferson Twp.) at two apiece. Stockton goalkeeper
Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) registered 11 saves.
Stockton will have a week off before ending the regular season with a home game against Kean University in G. Larry James Stadium next Saturday, April 28.
