Stockton Downs Scarlet Raptors 17-8

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-5, 2-2 NJAC) snapped a two-game losing skid with a convincing 17-8 victory over Rutgers-Camden (2-7, 0-3 NJAC) on Tuesday evening. Michaella Butrico (South Plainfield/South) and Danielle Graham (Cherry Hill/CH West) led the way with four goals each.

Stockton fell behind 1-0 early in the contest before they ripped off the next seven tallies for a 7-1 advantage in the first half. Graham and Abbey Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) hit the net twice during the onslaught. Butrico scored twice and Graham completed her hat trick during the final 15:39 to offset a pair of Raptors tallies for a 12-3 lead at the break.

The visitors scored the first three markers of the second half to halve the margin to 12-6 but the Ospreys answered with a trio of goals to push the lead back to 15-6 before setting the final score at 17-8 in favor of the Ospreys.

Butrico added a pair of assists for a six-point night, with Yannacone and Melanie Patterson (Jackson/Jackson Liberty) scoring three times each. Kristen Russo (Wayne/Wayne) had a big game as she grabbed nine draw controls, one off the single-game record. Russo also snagged seven ground balls and caused four turnovers to lead all players,

In the win, senior Amanda Scarpa (Manalapan/Freehold Twp.) scooped five ground balls, giving her 101 for her career and breaking the school record at Stockton of 97 ground balls set by Colleen Knight (2014-16). Freshman goalkeeper Stevie Ader (Califon/Voorhees) made seven saves in net for the Ospreys in earning the win.

Rutgers-Camden was led by Jessica Mayer with three goals and Cara Racobaldo with three assists. Goalkeeper Brittany Watson kicked out 12 Osprey attempts.

The Ospreys will have a week off before they take on #3 The College of New Jersey at home next Tuesday night at 7 pm.
