Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Stockton Overwhelmed by #1 TCNJ

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-6, 2-3 NJAC) played their final home game of the regular season but was outmanned by The College of New Jersey (14-2, 5-0 NJAC), the #1 ranked team in the nation, as they dropped a 18-1 decision. Tamara Torales (Basking Ridge/Ridge) scored the lone tally of the night for the Ospreys. The Lions are the top ranked team in Division III by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).

Stockton got off to a solid start defensively, holding the high-powered Lions to three goals in the first 17 minutes. The Ospreys got on the board with 13:28 left in the first half on an end-to-end rush by Torales, who finished the play with a goal that made it 3-1. Unfortunately, that was all the scoring on the evening for the Ospreys, as the Lions overwhelmed the home team.

Six tallies by the visitors in the last 13 minutes of the half made it 9-1 at the break. Melanie Patterson (Jackson/Jackson Liberty) a shot on goal but TCNJ goalkeeper Miranda Chrone stopped the attempt for her only save of the night. TCNJ then shut out the Ospreys in the second half without allowing a shot and scored nine more time for the 18-1 final.

Torales and Amanda Scarpa (Manalapan/Freehold Twp.) tied for the team lead with two ground balls each. Freshman Nicole Jandras (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) topped the Ospreys with two draw controls. Freshman goalkeeper Stevie Ader (Califon/Voorhees) made 10 saves in net for the Ospreys. Maura Twiggs (Ocean City/Ocean City) played the final 1:52 in net without facing a shot.

TCNJ was led by Alex Fitzpatrick with four goals and Olivia Cleale with eight assists. Chrone made her only save in the first half in earning the win.

The Ospreys will finish up the regular season on Saturday with a road game at Montclair State. Game time is set for 1 pm.
