Stockton Tops Ramapo in NJAC Opener

Mahwah, NJ – Stockton University (8-3, 1-0 NJAC) began conference play with a 14-12 victory over Ramapo (5-4, 0-1) that was the third straight win for the Ospreys. Gaby Ojeda (Galloway/Absegami) tied the school record of seven goals in a game to lead Stockton to the win.

Michaella Butrico (South Plainfield/South Plainfield) and Danielle Graham (Cherry Hill/CH West) added two goals apiece for the Ospreys. The game was tied 10-10 before Ojeda scored three straight to give Stockton the lead for good.

Freshman Alexis Limongello (Middletown/Middletown North) scored her first career goal 1:54 into the contest and tallies by Butrico, Ojeda and Graham sparked Stockton to a 4-1 lead. After Ramapo closed to 4-3, Tamara Torales (Basking Ridge/Ridge) and Ojeda struck 14 seconds apart to extend to 6-3. The Roadrunners tossed in the last two goals of the half and the Osprey lead was a slim 6-5 at the break.

The teams each scored three times in the first seven minutes of the second half, with Graham, Ojeda and Abbey Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) finding the net for Stockton. Another marker from Ojeda made it 10-8 before Ramapo fired home two straight counters to tie it 10-10 with 14:51 remaining.

Ojeda then took the game over with three straight goals that proved to be the difference. Her seventh tally of the day tied the school record and gave Stockton a 13-10 lead with 6:01 on the clock. The Ospreys led by at least two the rest of the way, with Butrico netting their final goal in the 14-12 triumph.

Stockton goalkeeper Stevie Ader (Califon/Voorhees) earned the win with seven saves in 49:18 between the pipes. Maura Twiggs (Ocean City/Ocean City) played the last 10:42 in goal, registering three saves, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
