Union, NJ – Stockton University (0-1) kicked off the 2018 season with a 4-0 setback to University of Scranton (1-0) in the first game of the Kean University Cougar Classic. The Ospreys saw their foes score twice in each half of the game.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kylee Sullivan (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) made three saves for Stockton in her college debut. Sullivan was one of seven starters for the young Osprey team who are either freshmen or sophomores.
Scranton outshot the Ospreys 14-11, with freshman
Susan Porambo (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) registering a team-high two shots for Stockton while nine others added one apiece.
The Ospreys fired six shots on goal but all of them were stopped by Scranton keepers Colleen Berry (2 saves in 69:07) and Amanda Steinberg (4 saves in 20:53) for a combined shutout. The Royals took the early lead with a pair of goals 1:59 apart for a 2-0 count with 22:16 gone in the game. Scranton struck again 26 seconds into the second half and closed the scoring at 61:41 for the 4-0 final.
Stockton will be back in action at the Kean Cougar Classic tomorrow with a match against Staten Island at 1 pm.
