Stockton Begins NJAC Play with 3-1 Win Over Rowan

Glassboro, NJ – Stockton University (6-3, 1-0 NJAC) began conference play with a 3-1 victory on the road at Rowan University (6-3, 0-1 NJAC). The Ospreys fought off set points by the Profs in the first and last sets to win 26-24, 23-25, 25-17, 30-28.

Allie Desmond (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) led the Ospreys with a match-high 19 kills, one off her career high. Freshman Caity Ullmer (Midland Park/Midland Park) contributed 12 kills and four blocks.

Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) handed out 33 assists and served three aces. Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) paced Stockton with 22 digs followed by Christie Louer (Clifton/Clifton) with 15 digs plus seven kills in the victory.

Stockton trailed 24-23 in the first set when Louer smacked three straight kills to rally the Ospreys to a 26-24 win. After dropping a close second set, Stockton raced out to a 5-1 lead in the third frame and later used a 10-3 run to pull away for a 25-17 victory.

Stockton faced a 20-13 deficit in the fourth set before mounting an epic comeback. Four straight points pulled the Ospreys within 20-17, but Rowan answered with four of the next five and appeared poised to extend the match at 24-18.

Stockton then reeled off six straight points, including two aces by Jocelyn Holobetz (Pittstown, PA/Nativity BVM), to improbably tie at 24-24. The teams exchanged points until the deadlock was 28-28 before Stockton strung together two straight to close out the victory, 30-28.

The Ospreys will head to New York City on a Saturday for a tri-match at Hunter College. The Ospreys will face Hunter at 10 am and Vassar at noon.
