Stockton Uses Big Half to Blank Swarthmore 3-0

Galloway, NJ –Stockton University (4-1) put up three goals in the first half for a 3-0 victory over Swarthmore (3-2) to conclude a four-game homestand. Sophomore back Casey Cordonna (Barrington/Haddon Hts.) scored her first two career goals to lead the Ospreys to the win.

Stockton's got on the board early, scoring on a penalty corner 8:57 into the game. Kassidy Wentzell (Hammonton/St. Joseph's) took a blast from the top of the arc that was tipped in by Cordonna for her first goal at the college level.

Cordonna added her second marker on a penalty stroke with 8:40 remaining in the first half to double the lead to 2-0. The Ospreys struck quickly with another goal 2:39 later.

Wentzell took a shot that went off a defender's stick and high in the air. Sarah Fisher (Monroeville/Woodstown) then batted the ball into the cage for her first goal of the season. Wentzell's assist was her second of the game.

The second half was scoreless, with Stockton outshooting Swarthmore 6-1 while protecting its three-goal cushion. The Osprey bench was heavily involved, with 24 field players and two goalies seeing action as Stockton cruised to the 3-0 win.

Starting goalkeeper Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) made three saves in 61:15 between the posts. Niya Calloway (Matawan/Matawan) played the last 8:45 without facing a shot on goal to complete the combined shutout. Swarthmore goalie Zelda Bank finished with three saves for the Garnet.

After four straight home games, Stockton will hit the road on Saturday with a visit to Eastern University for a matchup that starts at noon.
