Stockton Rallies to Top Eastern 2-1

St. Davids, PA – Stockton University (5-1) scored the last two goals to erase a 1-0 deficit and defeat Eastern University (1-5) 2-1 in a non-conference road game today. Newcomer Madison Dancisin (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) scored her first career goal, which turned out to be the game-winner.

Stockton fell behind on a tally by Joelle Wash 20:27 into the game. The Ospreys tied the contest with just 1:44 remaining in the half as Jennelle Long (Matawan/Matawan) scored her second goal of the season with an assist by Britney Stein (Ocean City/Ocean City). Eastern outshot Stockton 10-5 in the half but the match was tied 1-1 at the break.

Stockton went on the offensive with 11 shots in the second half, including two that were denied on defensive saves while the game was still knotted 1-1. Dancisin swept in a cross by Harlee York (Riverdale/Pompton Lakes) at the 57-minute mark to put the Ospreys on top for the first time at 2-1.

Eastern registered five shots in the last 13 minutes but goalkeeper Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) made two saves and the other three were wide or blocked as the Ospreys held on for the 2-1 victory. Gilligan finished with eight saves for the win while her counterpart Marley Redfield made nine stops for the Eagles.

Stockton will play another road game on Tuesday, visiting Alvernia on Tuesday for a 7 pm matchup.
