Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-1-3, 0-0-1) opened up their 2018 NJAC slate with a 0-0 draw against Kean University (2-2-3, 0-0-1) on Saturday afternoon. The tie extended the Ospreys unbeaten streak to six consecutive matches.
The Ospreys controlled the first half, out shooting the Cougars by an 8-3 margin, but could only manage one shot on net. Stockton came close to potting a marker in the 12th minute, but a floater by
Alexa Simonetti (Wayne/Wayne Valley) banged off the cross bar. The squads played a taught defensive game from there out and the teams to the break scoreless.
Kean took control of the second half, holding a 9-5 shot advantage with two being on net.
Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) was able to stop both attempts to keep the game knotted.
Emily Frazee (Port Republic/Cedar Creek) saw the best Osprey attempt sail high in the 79th minute before Kean unleashed two quick attempts late in the contest.
In the 86th minute, the Cougars blasted a shot that was saved by Pallante. The rebound came out to Emily Bretschneider but her shot flew over the cross bar and the match finished out 0-0 after 90 minutes of play.
The first extra frame produced one attempt by Kean, and the second overtime saw Mary Bystrycki kick out a shot by
Dasey DiElmo (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) with less than four minutes remaining, to preserve the tie.
Pallante made three saves and posted her fourth shutout of the season in net, giving her 29 in her career. The whitewashing moved the senior into fourth place all-time at Stockton. Stockton squeezed off 16 shots in the game with
Susan Porambo (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) accounting for five attempts.
Three different Cougars were able to get two shots apiece of the 13 on the day against Stockton. Bystrycki kicked out four Osprey shots in earning her shutout.
Stockton will travel to St. David's, PA to face Eastern for their next match. The non-conference affair will be played Wednesday afternoon at 4pm.
