Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (8-4, 2-0 NJAC) rolled to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-8) sweep of Rutgers-Camden (2-8 0-2 NJAC) in the Ospreys' home opener at The Sports Center. The victory was Stockton's sixth in the last eight matches and was a team effort as all 15 healthy Ospreys saw action.
Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) led the balanced attack with 14 assists, six aces, four digs and two kills. Sullivan set the tone for the match by serving 13 straight points in the first set.
Allie Desmond (Ellicott City/Marriotts Ridge) smacked a match-high 11 kills and added three blocks.
Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) led all players with 13 digs and also tallied four assists and two aces.
Jocelyn Holobetz (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM) was efficient on offense with seven kills on just 12 attacks while three of her teammates finished with five kills apiece.
The first set was tied 9-9 when Stockton reeled off 14 straight points, with Sullivan serving 13 in a row, for a commanding 23-9 advantage. Sullivan served five aces during the onslaught and the Ospreys took the set 25-12.
In the second frame, Stockton used a 7-1 run that featured kills by five different players to open up a 15-7 lead. The Ospreys later scored the last five points to clinch the set 25-11. Miller served 12 straight points, including two aces, to spark Stockton to a 16-2 lead in the third set and the Ospreys closed out the rout 25-8 to end the match.
Delaney Kolb led Rutgers-Camden with six kills followed by Ava D'Ambrosio with four. Kayla Benesz handed out 14 assists to tie Sullivan for match-high honors and Morgan Fox paced the Scarlet Raptors with six digs.
Stockton will host the two-day Osprey Classic tournament this weekend. Six teams will play a total of 11 matches, with the tournament beginning on Friday at 4 pm.
