Stockton Rallies for 2-2 Tie with Moravian

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (4-3-1) surrendered two goals in the first 23 minutes but battled back to forge a 2-2 tie with Moravian (3-2-2). Villy Fortulus (Winslow Twp./Winslow Twp.) and Eucario Solano (Galloway/Absegami) scored the goals for Stockton.

The Greyhounds struck first, opening the scoring at 19:05 when Anthony Nagy floated a free kick under the crossbar from 35 yards out for a 1-0 lead. Just 3:54 later, Moravian hit the net again as Jared Stafford tapped in a pass for the two-goal margin.

Solano cut the lead in half less than seven minutes after Stafford's with a 20-yard blast off a turnover to slice the margin to 2-1 with his third goal of the season. The teams battled defensively for the remainder of the half, registering just three shots each in the last 15 minutes.

The pace quickened during the second half, with Stockton pushing the offense. Fortulus converted to get the Ospreys even at 2-2 with 24:49 on the second-half clock. Solano served a corner kick that found Kyle Leach (Pitman/Pitman) in front of the net. His header across the box went to Fortulus, who planted his sixth goal of the season for the equalizer.

The match remained deadlocked in the final 24 minutes and the squads went to overtime. Neither team recorded a shot off during the first extra frame and the Greyhounds made one attempt from a sharp angle that was kicked away by Stockton goalkeeper Dino Gromitsaris (Bordentown/Bordentown) late in the second OT, and the contest ended in the 2-2 draw.

Gromitsaris made two saves on the night, while his counterpart Michael Bone made four stops. Stockton held a 12-5 advantage in shots with six on net but came away with just the pair of scores.

Stockton will return to New Jersey Athletic Conference play with a road match at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
