Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stockton Edged 1-0 on Late Goal by Rutgers-Newark

Newark, NJ – Stockton University (4-4-1, 1-1 NJAC) and Rutgers-Newark (5-3-1, 1-1) battled for over 84 scoreless minutes before the Scarlet Raiders came up with a late goal to deal the Ospreys a 1-0 defeat in an NJAC road game. Stockton held a 16-10 advantage in shots but was unable to find the back of the net.

Eucario Solano (Galloway/Absegami) and Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Hts./Hasbrouck Hts.) topped the Ospreys with three shots apiece, including two on goal by Solano. Stockton had scored at least once in each of its first eight games before being blanked by Rutgers-Newark.

Stockton generated some quality chances early in the second half. Gjeli fired a shot off the post and Anthony Chiaino (Middletown/Middletown North) was denied by Scarlet Raiders' Christian Andrach on the rebound. Larry Abanilla (Union/Union Catholic) just missed on a pair of shots a little over a minute apart.

A 25-yard blast by Pape Taha with just 5:31 remaining in regulation proved to be the difference as Stockton fell to Rutgers-Newark 1-0. Stockton goalkeeper Dino Gromitsaris (Bordentown/Bordentown) made two saves while his counterpart Andrach blanked the Ospreys with five stops.

The latest renewal of the Stockton-Rowan will take place on Wednesday when the Ospreys host the Profs in a conference game at G. Larry James at 7 pm.
