Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (6-2) won for the third time in the last four matches, with a tightly contested 1-0 victory over Marywood University (5-3) on Saturday afternoon.
Britney Stein (Ocean City/Ocean City) scored the only tally of the game and the Ospreys' defense made it stand up for the win.
Â
Neither team could break through for a marker during the first 35 minutes of play, due to outstanding defense on both sides. Stockton held a 5-3 on shots with both teams getting a pair of attempts on net, but the half ended with the scoreless deadlock.
Â
Stockton was able to score the lone tally at 38:47 when Stein fired a shot into the cage for the marker and the 1-0 lead. Stein took a pass from
Jennelle Long (Matawan/Matawan) in front and her tap-in gave the Ospreys the one-goal margin.
Â
The Pacers applied some pressure after the score, taking a 5-2 advantage on penalty corners, but goalkeeper
Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) and the defense were up to the task. Â The Ospreys were able to keep the visitors off the board the rest of the way to take the contest at the 1-0 final.
Â
Gilligan kicked out four shots in earning her second save of the season and lowering her goals against average to a miniscule 0.65 on the season. Lindsey Gladden posted two of the four shots on net for Marywood, with goalkeeper Kerri Mountz making three saves in the loss.
Â
Stockton will travel to Gwynedd Valley, PA for their next match as they face Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday. Game time is 6 pm.
