Allentown, PA – Stockton University (4-2) won both of its matches on the first day of the Buttermaker Tournament at Muhlenberg College. The Ospreys outlasted Stevenson (3-3) 3-2 in five sets. The scores were 25-21, 25-16, 17-25, 15-25, 15-11. Stockton then swept Neumann (5-2) 25-19, 25-20, 25-22.
Allie Desmond (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) led all players with 16 kills in the triumph over Stevenson. Freshman
Haley Green (Springville, UT/Maple Mountain) hit double digits for the first time in her young career with 13 kills.
Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) registered a double-double of 30 assists and 11 digs.
Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) scooped a team-high 21 digs and
Jocelyn Holobetz (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM) added 11 digs. Desmond smacked three kills early in the fifth set to spark Stockton to a 6-2 lead and the Ospreys led by at least three the rest of the way to take the match.
Desmond spiked a team-high 11 kills versus Neumann, followed by
Caity Ullmer (Midland Park/Midland Park) with seven. Sullivan handed out 16 assists and
Fiona Marziello (Haddonfield/Paul VI) contributed 10 helpers. Miller again paced the back row with 14 digs.
Stockton will continue play in the Buttermaker Tournament tomorrow with matches against FDU-Florham at noon and host Muhlenberg at 2 pm.
