Ewing, NJ – Stockton University (7-10, 5-5 NJAC) produced its highest point total of the season but it was not enough as the Ospreys were outscored 99-88 by The College of New Jersey (11-6, 7-3). Stockton led by four at the half before being overtaken the Lions in the second stanza.
Keenan Williams Jr. (Paulsboro/Paulsboro) led four Ospreys in double figures with a career-high 24 points. Williams Jr. went 6-9 from three-point range.
Brandon Hamilton (Camden/Paulsboro) tossed in 16 points followed by
Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) with 14 markers. Williams Jr., Hamilton and Ferebee were a combined 21-37 (56.8%) from the floor.
Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) chipped in with 11 points and a career-high nine rebounds. Stockton forced 19 turnovers, which led to 25 points, however the Lions shot 56.7 percent from the floor and sank 13 three-pointers in the game.
The Ospreys fell behind 26-16 in the first five minutes but settled in after that as Hamilton scored seven unanswered points during a 9-0 spurt that made it 26-25. A Hamilton three-pointer later gave Stockton its first lead at 40-39. The advantage was six at 54-48 after two straight three-pointers by Williams Jr. before a late TCNJ bucket left the Ospreys with a 54-50 edge at halftime.
After putting up 54 points in the first half, Stockton dropped off with just 34 markers in the second frame as they shot 36.4 percent from the floor including 5-22 (22.7%) from beyond the arc. TCNJ unleashed a barrage of 13 straight points in the first three minutes of the half and the Ospreys never recovered.
Stockton was still within six, 73-67, with 13:35 to play but an 18-7 run by the Lions over the next six minutes proved to be decisive. Overall, the Ospreys were outscored 49-34 in the second half and fell to TCNJ 99-88.
Stockton returns home after two straight road games to host Ramapo at The Sports Center on Saturday at 3 pm.
