Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-11, 5-6 NJAC) led by eight at halftime but was overtaken by Ramapo (13-5, 7-4) in the second half and suffered a 79-70 setback in an NJAC game at The Sports Center.
Tariq Baker (Brooklyn NY/St. Anthony's) led four Ospreys in double figures with 18 points.
Brandon Hamilton (Camden/Paulsboro) and
Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) scored 14 points apiece, with Hamilton also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.
Keenan Williams Jr. (Paulsboro/Paulsboro) shot 5-7 from the floor and finished with 12 points. Stockton was outscored 19-7 at the free throw line.
The Ospreys got off to a great start as they scored the first eight points of the game and built a 15-5 lead behind nine points by Baker. Ramapo later got as close as three at 34-31 with 2:19 remaining in the half.
Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) then hit two three-pointers in the last 2:04 for six of his eight points in the game to extend the lead to 40-32 at the break.
Baker sparked Stockton with 13 first-half points while Williams Jr. was 4-5 from the floor with one three-pointer for nine points. Although they are perimeter-oriented, the Ospreys outscored Ramapo 18-14 in the paint and led for the entire half.
The Roadrunners started fast in the second half, opening with a 12-2 run to take their first lead of the game at 44-42. The teams traded points over the next six minutes and Stockton was within two, 58-56, after a basket by Hamilton with 10:54 to go. The Ospreys then went scoreless for the next 4:33 and never recovered, trailing by eight or more for the last 5:51 and falling 79-70.
Overall, Ramapo shot a torrid 20-30 (66.7%) from the floor and outscored Stockton 47-30 in the second half, including 32-16 in the paint. The Ospreys missed their first eight three-point attempts of the period and finished 2-13 (15.4%) from beyond the arc after halftime.
Rob Lewis paced Ramapo with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Matt Latka also netted 17 points and Rob McWilliams contributed 15 markers.
Stockton's next game will be at Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday at 8 pm.
