Owings Mills, MD – Stockton University (4-10, 1-6 NJAC) headed south to Maryland for its final non-conference game of the season and suffered a 72-54 defeat to Stevenson University (6-8).
Emily Donzanti (Toms River/TR South) paced the Ospreys with team highs of 20 points and five assists.
Donzanti reached the 20-point mark for the fourth time in her rookie season and was the game's high scorer.
April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point) hit double figures with 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Natalie Miller (New Milford/New Milford) sank three three-pointers for nine markers.
After three early ties, the Ospreys forged a 14-10 lead as Miller and Donzanti sandwiched three-pointers around a Stevenson basket. Stockton stayed in front for the rest of the period and held a slim 16-15 edge at the end of the stanza behind eight points from Donzanti and six by Miller.
The Ospreys relinquished the lead at the start of the second quarter and never got it back. They struggled to put the ball in the basket, tallying just eight points and shooting 4-15 (26.7%) in the period on the way to a 35-24 deficit at the break.
The offensive woes continued in the third quarter as Stockton shot 25 percent from the floor (4-16) and again registered only eight points. The Ospreys improved dramatically in the fourth quarter, hitting eight of 16 from the field (50%), including 2-3 from beyond the arc for 22 points in the final stanza. The uptick was not enough however, and Stockton absorbed the 72-54 setback.
Stockton will wrap up a busy stretch of three games in five days with a home matchup against Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday at 6 pm.
